Abstract: This paper highlights some of the striking phonological features found in PaTani (a Tibeto-Burman language): retroflex consonants; murmured consonants; and high rising, level and glottalized tones. Elaborate inflectional systems in nouns and verbs and a non-Tibeto-Burman substratum (possibly Indo-Aryan) makes PaTani unique among Tibeto-Burman languages.*
