Abstract: Gordon H. Luce's Phases of Pre-Pagan Burma, Volume II first alerted me to the potential fruitfulness of comparative work with southern Chinese dialects and Tibeto-Burman languages. In Chart N, Tibeto-Burman Languages - Chin (Zo) Group, Tone Pattern I (Luce 1985:70-71), the following forms for 'tongue' (item *19) appears.
