Abstract: Apoptosis is a form of programmed cell death in multicellular organism. Although it has been known that cells follow a sequence of steps in shutting down, some of the details in the process are not fully known. This is mainly due to the small dimension of protein involved and the process is very rapid. Lately, photothermal sensing (imaging and response) technique is developed. The advantage of the technique is that it has resolution beyond diffraction-limit and this allows seeing targets that couldn’t be seen under microscope. In addition, the technique can capture time domain signal which could reveal the health condition of cells. Because of these advantages, photothermal sensing technique would be used in this project for tracking subcellular organelles and monitor cells death. We hope through this investigation, a better understanding of the process in cells death can be gained.
