That mysterious man

Abstract

This dissertation includes five chapters from the novel That Mysterious Man. The earlier chapters were submitted as my portfolio last term. Xu An is a rookie policeman who is working undercover in the Tang Nightclub as a waiter called Ann. The police suspect that the nightclub is implicated in the drug trade and Zhang Xu, a medicine dealer who is a regular, is involved. Xu An reports to his captain Chen Yi. Xu An's main mission is to find clues on Zhang Xu's daily actions in Tang Nightclub. However, unknown to Chen Yi, Xu An also has his own 'personal mission' -- solving the mystery of his mother's death, wherein Zhang Xu is a suspect. Xu An's father Xu Ming Yuan was a famous policeman and well respected by his son. However, the relationship between the father and son broke down after the death of Xu An's mother. To Xu An's surprise, his father appeared at the VIP event with Zhang Xu at Tang Nightclub. In my dissertation, I continue to portray Xu An's actions in Tang Nightclub during the VIP day, especially the conflict between him and his father.
