Abstract: This project explores the use of alternative input methods, specifically the microphone, in gamified experiences. The project is a 2D puzzle game built on the Unity Engine making use of the microphone as an input. The game uses the puzzle game format to teach players to identify and replicate rhythms in the environment. Two input methods was provided to the testers to find the effectiveness of the microphone as compared to the mainstream keyboard and touchscreen inputs. Players generally preferred the keyboard and touchscreen inputs due to familiarity and better accuracy, but there is interest in exploring alternative input methods. Further exploration could create a more accurate and effective alternative to mainstream input methods.
