Abstract: In this final year project, the aim is to develop a theoretical understanding of the construction of a flat-top beam from a superposition of Laguerre-Gaussian beams. This then can be resonantly coupled into a fabry-perot cavity for future applications in experiments involving ultracold atoms particularly in the context of atomic interferometry application. Currently, multiple models exist to achieve a flat-top beam profile, here I propose a novel method involving a simple modal decomposition of Laguerre-Gaussian beams.
