Abstract: Localization is a crucial task for robots, and global localization remains a challenging issue. In this thesis, we discuss the problems faced in achieving global localization based on 3D LiDAR and the necessary preliminary work required. On this basis, we developed a global localization algorithm and compared its performance with existing global localization algorithms. Finally, we integrated our algorithm into an existing localization system to create a more comprehensive positioning system, which was deployed on a Ranger Mini robot and tested in the actual environments.
