Abstract: From the 20th century to today, Singapore has been home to 'wet markets', markets with wet floors, and 'dry markets, markets which sell dried goods. As society modernizes and the practices of the past fade into obscurity, Singaporeans are trying to find how to gather cultural identity in the memories that they grew up with. One of these local sites of culture are the said dry markets, where everyday Singaporeans buy their dried goods for cooking or preservation or herbal medicine. This article explores an appropriate depiction of these past times that capture the environment of the dry market that can properly convey the emotions felt by people who frequent the dry market. This is evermore important as dry markets fade out of popularity and existence in favor of modern technology and ventures. Through the exploration in this article, the vibrancy of the dry market is depicted through a mixed media animated film consisting of both two-dimensional animation and stop motion, especially with the motif of cardboard, which is used to ship and contain dried goods around the dry market.
