This project presents the design and development of a low voltage low power short range wireless transceiver for subminiature low voltage micropower device which includes hearing aids. Conventional wireless communication systems like the radiofrequency (RF) are not being used here. Some of the drawbacks of traditional RF communication systems include nulls, scattering, multipath fading and interference can be avoided using an alternative form of transmission based on electromagnetic theory. Magnetic induction (MI) transmission is relatively in its infancy but has been gaining popularity as a lowpower wireless alternative. A signal will be embodied in a magnetic field before it is being transmitted across airinterface. The use of MI system will reduce power and cost as it is able to run at lower frequencies compared to RF systems for shortrange communications. System complexities are also reduced with the use of MI as the components are usually simpler. This report will investigate a different modulation scheme, typically the pulsewidth modulation to digitalize the acoustic input signals as well as selecting suitable power amplifiers, specifically Class AB and D amplifiers for the development of the project. In addition, telecoils, which are the main form of transmitting medium for the project, are used to verify the proposed concept. Finally, the performance of the prototype circuits will be investigated and analysed.en_US
