Abstract: Earthquakes are a potential threat with serious economic losses and human suffering. News reports of ground tremors in Singapore caused by Sumatra earthquakes at distance have become more frequent in recent years. In this thesis, Chapter Two briefly reviews the seismicity of Sumatra, Singapore geology and the seismic history of Singapore.
