Abstract: Congestion control is an important issue in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks. Though many congestion control techniques have been proposed and evaluated in the past, no technique has been universally accepted yet. The type of traffic that causes the most problems to ATM networks is the bursty traffic with high peak bit rate. So, if this type of traffic can be handled properly, many congestion problems can be resolved.
