Scheduling and control of flexible manufacturing systems

Abstract

The scheduling and control problems of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) are very important considerations if one is to improve the performance of the system with a given system design. FMS scheduling is known to be a complex problem because of the flexibility and automation of the production environment, dynamic changes of systems and orders, and dynamic decision requirements. It is a challenging task to obtain a good feasible solution to an FMS scheduling problem.
