Abstract: New types of communication satellites will be demanded by future traffic requirements in mobile and small fixed-station business systems which are characterised by a large number of small capacity, multi-service users and small earth stations. One approach to providing these services with sufficiently cost-effectiveness is using FDMA/SCPC (frequency division multiple access/single carrier per channel) in the uplink and TDM (time division multiplexing) in the downlink. To interface FDMA in the uplink and TDM in the downlink, a multicarrier demodulator (MCD) is required on-board the satellite. The operation of the on-board MCD is the separation of each individual channel and subsequent demodulation, i.e., the demultiplexing and demodulation.
