Abstract: AISI 410 is a popular grade in the martensitic series and is used widely in engineering applications. However, its uses are often limited by insufficient fatigue strength. Plasma nitriding is thought to improve fatigue strength by developing useful compressive residual stresses in the case. The representative martensitic stainless steel, AISI 410, is selected to explore its fatigue performance after plasma nitriding.
