Abstract: In this report, a literature review on expert systems and its applications in the areas of maintenance and fault diagnosis is carried out. In addition, a diagnostic expert system for the troubleshooting of the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) system is also developed using a PC-based expert system software called Intelligent Computer Aided Troubleshooting (ICAT). This system is capable of providing troubleshooting for the 'O' level, T level and 'D' level maintenance tasks of the APU system.
