Title: The analysis on the natural resting aspects of parts for automatic assembly

Abstract: In automated assembly, one of the major areas is the feeding and orientation of parts. To design an efficient feeding or orienting device, a knowledge about the probabilities of the natural resting aspects of parts is necessary. Nevertheless, little work seems to have done in the feeding and orientation. Currently the methods to predict the natural resting behaviour of parts are Jew, and each of them has its limitations. A literature review conducted revealed the following methods used to predict the probability of the natural resting aspects of parts; namely the energy barrier method, the energy barrier area method, the centroid solid angle (CSA) method and the empirical one that predicts the resting aspects by throwing and counting a batch of parts.
