Abstract: This thesis presents physical based models to realistically animate cloth motion in free air flow. Cloth motion under air flow is animated using data from numerical solutions of mathematical models based on aerodynamic theory and structural dynamics. Concepts and theories from low speed aerodynamics have been adopted to model the aerodynamic forces acting on the cloth surface as a result of its relative motion in air, while the dis-placements of the points on the cloth surface are modelled as a combination of large rigid body displacement and small elastic deformation due to aerodynamic forces.
