|Title:||A survey on family reading||Authors:||Low, Eik Sin.||Keywords:||DRNTU::Library and information science::Libraries::Information literacy||Issue Date:||1997||Abstract:||This study on the current family reading practices by parents and caregivers who visit the public libraries under the National Library Board system and Community Children's Libraries in Singapore, specifically investigated the following: (i) the practice of parent-child reading for children aged 12 years old and below, and especially for the pre-school group below 7 years old (ii) the profiles of non-reading families. This study presents the implementation of a questionnaire survey cum interview. Variables considered were age, ethnic group, education level, working status, the different perceptions of parental gender roles in parent-child reading, and the attitudes of parents and caregivers.
