|Title:||Information searching in a CD-ROM encyclopaedia by school children||Authors:||Tan, Jean Lee.||Keywords:||DRNTU::Library and information science::Libraries::Information retrieval and analysis||Issue Date:||1998||Abstract:||This study investigated the impact of formal instruction on information searching effectiveness and behaviour of secondary school children using a full-text CD-ROM encyclopaedia entitled The 1996 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopaedia. Seventy-eight 13-year-old school children searching information were studied under two conditions. One group was given formal training and the other group was not given formal training. Two information-seeking strategies were taught to the subjects in the treatment group. They were a browse or title search strategy and a more complex, analytical strategy using Boolean query formulation.||URI:||http://hdl.handle.net/10356/20470||Rights:||NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY||Fulltext Permission:||restricted||Fulltext Availability:||With Fulltext|
