Title: | Information searching in a CD-ROM encyclopaedia by school children | Authors: | Tan, Jean Lee. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Library and information science::Libraries::Information retrieval and analysis | Issue Date: | 1998 | Abstract: | This study investigated the impact of formal instruction on information searching effectiveness and behaviour of secondary school children using a full-text CD-ROM encyclopaedia entitled The 1996 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopaedia. Seventy-eight 13-year-old school children searching information were studied under two conditions. One group was given formal training and the other group was not given formal training. Two information-seeking strategies were taught to the subjects in the treatment group. They were a browse or title search strategy and a more complex, analytical strategy using Boolean query formulation. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/20470 | Schools: | School of Applied Science | Rights: | NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
