Abstract: E-learning has truly evolved over the past ten years or so. Technology-enabled learning and distance education changed to online learning and web-based training, which morphed into e-learning. The introduction of e-learning added new meaning to training, and the possibilities for delivering knowledge and information to learners at an accelerated pace opened a new world for knowledge transfer. By now, industry pioneers agree that e-learning is here to stay. This project, Virtual Learning Community, aims to explore and experiment a practical approach to providing a personalized, learner centric e-learning system to end users. Via a grid based community portal, a goal-oriented approach towards learner centric e-learning was proposed. With the help of intelligent software agents, learning goals are immersed into the courses or learning objects to bridge the gap between the individual learner’s goal and the learning objects.
