Abstract: In this study, we test the patterns of conflicts management strategies and underlying motives in Chinese young employees’ perception by in-depth interview. As expected, Chinese young employees show diverse responses beyond traditional paradigm of Confucian collectivism. Open style of collaborative strategy supersedes conflict avoidance and indirect communication; Instrumental focus instead of genuine value placed has been frequent in practice. Indeed, Martial school, Mohism and Legalism are proposed as a different approach to account for instrumental orientation of organizational behaviors. Additionally, my findings indicate that culture values are not adequate to explain complex viewpoints. Instead, the organization structure is also contributing factor.
