Abstract: This report documents the work done in the project ?Efficient Transport Systems for Container Port?. The research was carried out in two areas: (1) study of optimization models of a number of processes in the container handling operation in ports; (ii) Development of a simulation model to study new configurations, operating policies that will increase port efficiency significantly in order to be able to handle the demands of mega container vessels. We have presented interesting techniques to handle the optimization models. We have proposed many constructive ideas, extensible design methods and interesting modeling techniques that can make simulation more realistic, flexible and efficient. The simulation nwdel built has been found useful by industrial practitioners. Jurong Port and NOL both are using the adapted versions of the simulation model to investigate on the terminal capacities and ways to improve terminal efficiency.
