Title: | Facebook as juggernaut : understanding social network sites using Gidden’s theory | Authors: | Ang, Seng Keat | Keywords: | DRNTU::Social sciences | Issue Date: | 2010 | Abstract: | Facebook has gained huge popularity in Singapore. Materials have been collected through fifty surveys, twenty interviews of Singapore undergraduates. Socialising and connectivity were discovered as the key influence between Facebook and modernity. This research will use Giddens Juggernaut of Modernity to explain how did Facebook achieve her popularity and why will she be staying in our society. Second, we look into how Facebook and human agency together create an impact on the modern society. Much of this report is written using observations from the actions and behaviours of Singapore Facebook users, seeking hidden meanings. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/25676 | Schools: | School of Humanities and Social Sciences | Research Centres: | Centre for Modelling and Control of Complex Systems | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
