Abstract: In this study, a new Cross-Hexagon algorithm is proposed for efficient motion estimation. The proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional BMAs like Three Step Search, Diamond Search, Orthogonal Search, etc both in terms of reducing the computational complexity and improvement in video quality. The proposed Cross-Hexagon algorithm also outperforms the newly proposed BMAs like Hexagonal Search, Adaptive Rood Pattern Search and Adaptive Dual Cross Search in terms of reducing the computational complexity while almost maintaining the same level of degradation.
