Abstract: Video compression is widely used in many products, such as HDTV, set-top boxes, VCD/DVD players, and video conferencing. This dissertation provides an in-depth study of existing MPEF technologies and MPEG video compression standards, and introduces the readers to the basics of MPEG video compression, both from the encoding and decoding perspectives.
