Title: | Piezoelectric tubular transducer for advanced pumping applications | Authors: | Tan, Pei Lin. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering | Issue Date: | 2010 | Abstract: | In this project, two motors using different types of transducers were fabricated and proposed. Several tests were carried out to identify the important characteristics and properties of the two transducers used for the fabrication of motor. The two prototypes were compared with other transducers which were fabricated by other research groups and the prototypes were proven to be more superior in some applications. The first transducer is named as monoclinic piezoelectric transducer; it is made up two piezoelectric disk-shaped material attached together by means of adhesive. The second transducer is a made of a hollow tube named as piezo-Al composite transducer. The working principle of the two transducers is making use of two orthogonal bending modes. Many ultrasonic motors using bending vibrations have been reported in [7]-[9]. However, two driving sources are necessary to drive these motors. In the two motors presented, a single driving source is enough to excite two bending modes at the same time. The working frequency of monoclinic piezoelectric transducer is 42.4 kHz. A torque of 1 mNm was reached at a maximum power of 38mW with a speed of 38 rad/s. The working frequency of the piezo-Al composite transducer is 30.3 kHz. A torque of 1.1 mNm was reached at a maximum power of 75 mW with a speed of 75 rad/s. Based on the results obtained, comparisons of the two motors were made with the ones in the literature.
