Issue Date: 2010
Abstract: The synthesis of 6-(4-(thiophen-2-yl)phenoxy)hexanoic acid was carried out for the purpose of increasing the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of hybrid solar cells. This report gives a detailed account of the synthesis process, and the characterization of 6-(4-(thiophen-2-yl)phenoxy)hexanoic acid for use in the hybrid solar cell. Characterisation of 6-(4-(thiophen-2-yl)phenoxy)hexanoic acid include nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy (1H, 13C), matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation-time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry, ultra violet (UV) spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) methods. The results from this synthesis represent a practical approach in producing a useful amount of 6-(4-(thiophen-2-yl)phenoxy)hexanoic acid needed for uses in hybrid solar cells.
