Abstract: Mistletoe (Viscum album) lectins exert unique biological effects inhibiting protein synthesis through the cleavage of ribosomal RNA and are classified as type-II ribosome-inactivating proteins and receive a rising attention due to their potential medical and therapeutic applications in cancer therapy. The heterodimeric glycoproteins contain the A-chain with RNA cleaving catalytic activity and the B-chain with sugar-binding properties.
