Molecular characterization of a type-II ribosome inactivating protein and BC1-2 specific small interfering RNA
Date of Issue2007
School of Biological Sciences
Mistletoe (Viscum album) lectins exert unique biological effects inhibiting protein synthesis through the cleavage of ribosomal RNA and are classified as type-II ribosome-inactivating proteins and receive a rising attention due to their potential medical and therapeutic applications in cancer therapy. The heterodimeric glycoproteins contain the A-chain with RNA cleaving catalytic activity and the B-chain with sugar-binding properties.
