Abstract: After the announcement of the nuclear initiative in July 2005 in both India and United States, what followed was a series of criticism in both the countries.An attempt has been made in this study to assess the arguments of the critics against the Indo -U.S nuclear initiative. This study appraises the arguments of the critics regarding issues of nuclear programme to the effects on the nonproliferation regime and regarding India's sovereign foreign policy.
