Authors: Jolene Anne R. Jerard

Issue Date: 2007
Abstract: The fear of the apocalyptic trajectory of violence that terrorists can cause has dominated the discourse of counter-terrorism policies of governments. The hardliner military stance undertaken by most governments are a direct reaction to this fear. This paper will put forth yet another angle in the fight against this global war that has yet to have been emphasised in considerable detail. This paper will contend that negotiation in addition to the measures already undertaken can help to mitigate the threat of Islamist Terrorism. Using the key principles of principled negotiation, this paper aims to shed light upon the often negated subject of negotiation with Islamist Terrorists
