Abstract: Prompted by the numerous incidents and accidents involving taxiway and runway identification errors, this study sets out to examine the taxiway and runway identification process for departing aircrafts by breaking the process down into its component stages. Possible factors and conditions that can contribute to human errors at each stage of the process are systematically identified and recommendations to circumvent these factors and conditions are made based on the application of human factors principles.
