Issue Date: 2006
Abstract: One of the critical areas of supply chain management in general and logistics in particular has been the reduction of costs. Companies are constantly looking to reduce costs so that profit margins are increased and good financial health is ensured in an extremely competitive global environment. It is very important to note that while cost cutting can increase profits it should not compromise on the quality of service and reduction of service levels. Therefore the goal here is to reduce costs while maintaining a suitably high service level and also looking to increase the service offered to customers.
