Abstract: The issue of stress shielding encountered in Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) has been one of the causes of failed arthroplasty, mainly due to bone resorption which lead to boneimplant interface loosening. The stiffness mismatch between the bone and the implant was suggested to be one of the main causes of stress-shielding. The usage of implants with stiffness much higher than that of bone has caused uneven load distribution between the implant and bone: the majority of the load was taken by the implant while the bone became "inactive". As the bone constantly remodel itself and the remodeling activity is affected by the strain, the absence of strain due to stress-shielding will invoke the resorption of bone at the "inactive" region.
