Abstract: This study is to examine the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) and fasting-induced adipose factor (FIAF) in squamous cell carcinoma. 20 archival paraffin-embedded biopsy specimens were selected from histopathology files of National Skin Centre, Singapore. These were 10 cases of invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and paired peritumoral normal skin specimens. Total RNA was extracted and reversed transcribed to cDNA. The expression of each gene, namely PPAR-a, PPAR-p/8, PPAR-y, HIF-la and FIAF was quantified by real-time PCR (QRT-PCR) and normalized to P-actin expression. Gene expression between tumor and peritumoral samples was analysed for statistical significance using Mann-Whitney test.
