Abstract: The project aims at addressing the need for an intelligent controller for GMA welding applications that can guide the welding torch exactly on the weld seam so that good quality welding is achieved. Seam tracking is a low level control mechanism wherein the welding torch is precisely controlled during welding to position it on the weld seam irrespective of variations in the unstructured seam environment due to thermal distortion, fixturing error, improperly prepared weld joints and such causes.
