Abstract: This report discusses the application of PWM delta modulation technique to inverters that are used for a.c. motor drives. Delta modulation provides constant volts per hertz control for a preset frequency range of operation and smooth transition to constant voltage mode of operation. These properties are inherent in the DM without feedback complexity. Furthermore, it provides low order harmonic attenuation of the load voltage. All these features make it a very desirable technique for a.c. motor drives when run from variable-frequency inverter supplies.
