Abstract: Thin film technology is the current choice of technology in fabrication smart devices and optical systems. As a result of the progress made in the last decades, microelectronic fabrication technology is now being applied in the development of new generations of smart devices such as MEMS, Optical MEMS and BioMEMS. Optics is in fact one of the earliest and most active areas in which MEMS technology has been applied, e.g Lenses, prims, WDM, DWDM, optical filters, tunable optical devices, fiber optics, VCSEL lasers, and currently photonics crystals.
