Abstract: The existence of the Internet has become an important form of communication among the people around the world. Many interesting uses of the Internet are available, like Game, e-mail, Instant Messaging (MSN, ICQ), E-commerce. So the issues of the data security and safe communication are becoming more and more important. A fast and safe encryption method to safeguard the data transmission over the Internet is very important. The focus of this report is to discuss encryption algorithm called M-BTEA (Modified version of block TEA), which is modified from another symmetric block cipher called TEA to fit the 32 bit and the emerging 64 bit computing architecture. This dissertation will briefly cover the background of the M-BTEA and will review both statistically properties and cryptanalysis of M-BTEA. This dissertation will also compare the execution time of M-BTEA with other encryption algorithms.
