dc.description.abstractThis dissertation is devoted to the frequency estimation in the presence of multiplicative noise and colored noise. One is intrigued by the observation that the received signal is corrupted by a multiplicative noise in most practical applications, such as in multipath fading channel estimation, back scattered acoustic signal processing and array processing of spatially distributed signal, etc. While frequency estimation in additive white Gaussian noise has received intensive attention, neither frequency estimation in colored noise nor frequency estimation in multiplicative noise has received nearly as much attention. In this thesis, we investigate the correlation based single tone frequency estimation due to its computational simplicity and efficiency of the performance. The performance of this estimator is evaluated comprehensively in the presence of colored noise and multiplicative noise. Extension of the work to multiple frequency estimation in the presence of multiplicative noise and colored noise is also discussed in detail.en_US
