dc.description.abstract | A fair amount of research has been done on the continuous-flow type of blood pumps and several models of these artificial hearts have even been made commercially available. However their usage is not widespread yet as there are still many areas in need of improvements. To overcome some of the current drawbacks, and also to advance the knowledge of centrifugal blood pump design from the electromechanical propulsion aspect, there is a need for research by combining computational electro-magnetics, innovative induction machine design and centrifugal pump principles to examine various new possible designs of shaft-less and compact blood pump devices. This is the overall objective of this project. | en |
