Abstract: This dissertation starts from the review of the elliptic curve digital signature, finite field, elliptic, digital signature, etc. Then we discuss the constraint on the smart card for the implementation of elliptic curve cryptosystem. Elliptic curve cryptosystem can provide higher security with shorter key than other public key cryptosystem. This is special important when one implements public key cryptosystem on the constraint environment like smart card. We proposed a protocol for the public key cryptosystem application on the smart card. The protocol includes the initialization process and the mutual authentication part between the smart card and the host computer which communicate with the smart card. With this proposed protocol, the public key cryptosystem can take the advantage of elliptic and it is a better solution to the cryptosystem than other algorithms on the smart card. We also discussed the implementation issue for the elliptic curve cryptosystem on the constraint environment like smart card. This provides better proof for the feasibility of elliptic curve protocol.
