Abstract: The basic idea of video coding is in exploiting the spatial and temporal redundancies to compress video signal. Block-based motion estimation is widely used in video compression. The Full Search algorithm is a block-based method that produces the optimal solution but is computationally intensive. Many fast search algorithms have been proposed to reduce the computational load in full search. These algorithms either reduce the search points evaluated in the search space using various search strategies or use fast block comparison by using error measures that provide early rejection of non-matching blocks.
