Abstract: The project involves performance analysis of error for rake receivers of Ultra Wide Band communications under AWGN and fading channel using a mathematical approach. Impulse Radio (IR) binary antipodal Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM) is being considered. The fading channel in particular is the IEEE802.15.3a channel model where the multipath arrival is modeled as two Poisson processes and each channel gain is log-normal distributed. Also, the effect of log-normal shadowing is taken into consideration. The BER formula is derived for three types of rake receivers which use different types of combining techniques, namely Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC), Equal Gain Combining (EGC) and Selection Diversity (SD).
