dc.description.abstract | In this thesis, a rate-based control mechanism is proposed for ABR service to achieve Max-min fairness in ATM networks, using both the load level and the change in the queue length to detect the presence of congestion. With Max-min fairness criterion, all the links bottlenecked at a switch are treated equally, and each gets an equal share of the bandwidth. Continuous control functions are designed for bandwidth allocation. A better buffer control is achieved since the buffer occupancy is considered in the allocation. All the control functions are designed in such a way that they are sensitive to load changes when the load is far from the target level to obtain fast response, but become insensitive and change slowly when the load is close to the target rate to keep the system around the steady state. | en_US |
