Title: Active queue management of multimedia flows over ATM networks

Abstract: In the present study, the active queue management for MPLS over ATM is investigated. First Come First Serve (FCFS), Random Early Detection (RED) and Class-Based Threshold (CBT) are suggested as the potential mechanisms for supporting the integrated flow management. The simulation results have confirmed that the CBT can protect the TCP connections from starvation by "aggressive" or non-responsive UDP applications and reserve the link capacity for UDP that requires continuous transmission. The performance of the proposed mechanisms is simulated and compared in terms of throughput, latency and packet loss. It is found that CBT can provide the isolation between traffic classes to satisfy the QoS; and the CBT can apply the hierarchical link share to lead the real time flows experiencing no drops and minimal latency.
