Abstract

It started out with my interest in old photographs, in the stories that they tell or keep secret. There were only a few pictures of my meternal grandmother and in each picture I wanted to get to know her. By reappropriating these old photographs through image transfers and embroidery, I hope to make this wish visible. In this project, I am addressing issues of conflicted identity due to mixed ancestry. It is an exploration into finding my own roots, and trying to reclaim some form of memory of lost persons.
