Abstract: The theoretical slope efficiency and output power for the 2-micron Tm-doped silica fiber laser is presented. The rate equations are determined and solved using software Mathematica 4.0. With the published parameters as input, good agreements were achieved between the simulation results and the published results. This simulation then can be used to examine the Tm fiber laser output power and slope efficiency for a variety of fiber and pump wavelength. The model was further used to analyze the effect of many factors: pump wavelength, pump power, fiber length, Tm concentration and output FBG. The simulation results of these five factors’ effect were discussed. Then recommendation on the experiment set-up of 2-micron fiber laser for optimum output was given based on the analysis results. Recommendations on Tm fiber amplifier was given also by modifying Tm fiber laser simulation program.
