Abstract: MCM-41 supports of different pore sizes were first synthesized by the surfactant-template method followed by the loading of Pt catalysts by solvent controlled impregnation method. The MCM-41 supported Pt catalysts were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction and BET. Selective benzene hydrogenation from benzene-toluene mixtures were carried out while varying the ratio of these mixtures and the support pore size. This was to determine the effect of pore size and curvature on the electronic property of platinum nanoparticles that would subsequently affect the selectivity of the reaction. Supports of different pore size show different toluene selectivity in the hydrogenation reaction of benzene-toluene mixture which may be able to explain any electronic effect due to different pore size effect.
