Abstract: Antioxidants are phytochemicals, vitamins and other nutrients that protect our cells from damage caused by free radicals. In-vitro and In-vivo studies have shown that antioxidants help to prevent the free radical damage that is associated with cancer and heart diseases. This project seeks to mechanize the various methods of extracting antioxidants from mangosteen, the fruit known to contain the most number of naturally occurring antioxidants. During the initial stage of the project, various methodology were investigated to find out which method yields the highest amount of antioxidants from the pericarps of mangosteen. Next, the highest yielding method was then broken up into several general steps to facilitate the mechanization of the method. For each general step, a minimum of 3 solutions to carry out the step was proposed. Then, the proposed solutions to carry out each step were then evaluated according to certain criteria and the best solution to each step was chosen. Following which, the solutions were then assembled and the final conceptual design was finalized. After the finalization of the final conceptual design, the materials and parts were then assembled to form final fabricated product.
