Abstract: This project mainly concerns the control technique of linear servo motor systems to achieve position control. The control system is basically a closed loop feedback system. We will focus on linear motors based on Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) design used in industrial applications for precision control. The proposed controller is linear Model Predictive Control (MPC). We have evaluated the performance of the proposed controller by looking at two cases of linear MPC: unconstrained MPC and constrained MPC whereby inputs are constrained. Furthermore, we have used Genetic Algorithm (GA) to search for optimized parameters of the MPC: prediction horizon, control horizon and control weighing.
